On 10 and 11 May, EX.TRE.M is coming to Saint-Gilles (in Brussels) to present the practices of seven European partners who are exploring the intersections between migration, artistic expression and social inclusion.

The two-day event is designed as a forum for exchange and reflection, bringing together audiences, participants, artists and mediators. Feedback and reflection tools will be set up in the two venues. The aim is for this initiative to go beyond a one-off event and become a moment of community and the creation of an international ecosystem around mediation practices in migratory contexts.

All activities are free, registration required.

10 MAY – CENTRE CULTUREL JACQUES FRANCK
Information and registration : www.lejacquesfranck.be

3 PM. Lecture “How to remain radical while mediating” – Duration: 1h30

What if, for once, it wasn’t the operators or established artists who were taking the floor… but the young people in training ? Aged between 14 and 35 and from a variety of migratory backgrounds, the participants in the EX.TRE.M training course will lead this performative conference to share their questions and ambitions in terms of cultural mediation. It’s a lively space for exchange, open to all, where we can think together about the possibilities of radical and inclusive art.

5 PM. Sharing practice: Worlding Picnic – Duration: 1h30

With Asinitas / DOM (Rome, IT) – Workshop given in English

Inspired by the convivial practice of picnics, a central axis of the DOM collective’s research, this workshop will create a warm and relaxed relational framework conducive to the exchange of knowledge. Each participant, if he or she so wishes, will be able to share a personal passion, skill or practice that is close to his or her heart. A moment dedicated to sharing.

7 PM. Off-stage show Part 1 (Performance) – Duration: 30min

With Teatro Magro (Mantua, IT)

A labyrinth of hidden truths, where the mask becomes a radical revealer of the self – revealing the unspeakable by concealing it, transforming vulnerability into a ritual oath of exposure. A performance born of an ongoing workshop with young people from immigrant backgrounds, always playing on a fragile balance, where identity breaks down and rebuilds its own narrative. How do you break the deadlock ?

8 PM. Work stage – Duration: 40min – 1h

With Babel / Amunì (Palermo, IT)

A faraway beach, reached by chance, at the mercy of the wind and the waters, on a journey without stopover, without hope. The three brothers will arrive proud after so many dangers. The two sisters flee their country and, full of fear, move forward without knowing what will happen to them.
