“SPECIAL” Final Showcase: A Site-Specific Performance for the Community

On June 8, 2025, Teatro Magro hosted the final public presentation of “SPECIAL”, the outcome of two intensive workshop cycles developed within the EX.TRE.M project. The performance marked the conclusion of a long, multifaceted journey that took place across two phases: the first between October and November 2024, and the second in May 2025.

Previously, an excerpt of this work was presented in Brussels, during one of the international management meetings. However, it was essential to share the full experience with the local community as well. The June 8 event was not only a performance, but a moment of return, recognition, and exchange.

Held in the spaces of Teatro Magro’s HOME, including the main stage, the hall, and transitional areas, the piece took the form of a site-specific performance, where each room became part of a larger narrative. The numerous performers, many of them young people with migrant backgrounds, physically and emotionally inhabited the venue, transforming it into a vibrant, living artwork.

Through movement, voice, and presence, the performers gave shape to a collective story made of encounter, identity, and transformation — themes at the heart of EX.TRE.M’s mission to foster participation and equity through theatre.

The event gave something back to the people who inspired it: a moment of shared meaning, co-created through theatre. In doing so, it quietly affirmed the power of art to bring people together and make stories visible.
